Credentials

Credentials, Great for Salary Negotiations

Get the maximum benefit out of your credentials in a negotiation situation by highlighting your skills, education, or experience in a particular area. You can do this in several different ways:

  • Include Qualifications on Your Business Card
  • Mention Your Experience, Skills, and Education in Natural Conversation
  • Drop Names into the Conversation that are Influential in Your Circles
  • More Bluntly, Compare Credentials

Since negotiations are a personal experience, as well as a business transaction, by including credentials you are essentially selling yourself in the process. This can be done in obvious situations, like job interviews, as well as less obvious situations, like negotiating a real estate contract.

Example

You are trying to win a big construction contract for your company. Several other contractors are bidding for the job. You and your company have the most experience by far than the other contract companies in town.

Your credentials are extensive since you have been running the company yourself for forty years. Not only do you have time put into the company, but your guys do quality work. They also get jobs done on time and in budget.

When you present to the decision makers, you highlight these points and let them know that while you may not be the cheapest around, they will not have to deal with any surprises down the road. They like what they hear and decide to hire your company on the spot!
